Putnam Problem Solving Sessions

In the Fall of 2007 the Department of Mathematical Sciences will be offering MATH 281: PUTNAM EXAM PREPARATION.

In this seminar-style course we investigate general problem solving strategies by working out challenging and non-standard mathematical problems. The course emphasizes synthesis of concepts from different areas of mathematics and it assists students in gaining a better understanding of what pure mathematics research is all about. This course will be graded on a pass/fail basis; students are expected to participate in the upcoming William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition.
