Bride of the Gulf
by Mubarak Al-Khaili

Abu-Dhabi is the bride of the Gulf. It's the capital of the United Arab Emirates and it's only 30 years old, which means that it's very youthful, compared to the other cities. During this short period of time it has become one of most impressive cities on the world map. Before that, it was plain desert without life, and it has changed from that to a green oasis where a green blanket covers almost every foot of its land. The flower's sweet scent and the fresh clean air is what you can smell and breathe. The great emerald trees make a thick shade where you can hide from the warm sunlight and enjoy the cool north wind, which wafts from the seaside. All these natural sites are mixed with new modern buildings that are well thought out by the best urban designers. Also, you can see a variety of patterns among the high glossy towers and short wide malls. You can feel that there is no rush hour or crowds when you cross smoothly on the wide clean streets downtown. The roundabouts, which make connections between the roads, are crowded with different kinds of shrubs, which are grown on soft green grass. Along these roads, there is a wide sidewalk where you can walk or run through the green area with the blue water on one side and the sunset on the other. The clean, white sandy beach hugs the island of Abu-Dhabi; that is the place where you can lie down under the golden sunlight to get a bronze color. If you want to go for a dip, you will find clear, warm water and spongy waves holding you. There are very many palm trees around the sea and you can eat several kinds of tasty, sweet and crispy dates. The sea surf and birds' songs make a unique music that you can hear while you are sunbathing. If you go far away and take a view of the sea, you will see the blue mass of buildings which make a connection between the two blue colors from the sky and the sea, and the green trees make a slice between them. Abu-Dhabi is the most gorgeous city in the Middle East. No other place is worthy to be the bride of the Gulf.
