I. Required Text and Materials:
II. Course Description/Objectives:
The course objective is to introduce students to the concepts, vocabulary, and practical skills necessary to use several computer applications using networked personal computers. Much of the work in class will be done with a partner or small group. There will be an emphasis on cooperation and group learning. Learning to work with others (and to get along with different kinds of people) to accomplish a common goal is *very* important preparation for university study and for your future life.
The focus of the class will be on understanding the following:
III. Class Communication:
Check your Email daily. Some of the class assignments will be sent
through Email.
Check the Calender on our Class
Page. Your daily assignments will be posted there.
IV. Computer Labs:
Throckmorton and Watzek Library have the software you will need to complete assignments (except for Hollywood). Miller and Odell Lab are available but do not have all the software you need. (Ask me).
V. Grading:
You will be graded based on 1) your knowledge of the information presented in the class and 2) the quality/accuracy of the language you produce in completing your assignments. 3) your willingness to work on assignments using your English (choose a partner NOT from your country when possible).
Please do not get behind in this class. If you miss one class, you will probably not understand the next class. Therefore attending class and turning work in on time is extremely important. If you miss a class, it is you responsibility to find out what you missed. Three absences will lower your grade (3 tardies = 1 absence) Late work will be graded down. There will be no make-up exams.
VI. Publishing:
One objective of this class is to create work which will be published on the World Wide Web via our class web page. Please sign the permission form at the bottom of the page titled, "Using the *Internet - Student Guidelines" which you will find in your textbook. (Anyone who does not want to sign the form should see me the first day of class).
VII. Academic Server:
You will use the Academic Server to get files to work on. You will copy these files to your computer disk. The Academic Server will also be used to store some files (especially large graphics files) which you want to save, but which may not fit on your floppy disk.
To Access the Academic Server, follow these steps:
