ISALC: ESL 382: Computer Applications - Fall 1998
I am Akiko Maeda and come from Japan. My hometown is Sapporo, Hokkaido in Japan. It's a comfortable city and a sister city with Portland. I am a junior in my university in Japan and majoring in International Economics. I sometime play Racquetball as a member of the racquetball club in my university.
Why I am here is to make my dream come true. My dream requires at least language skill to talk with a lot of people and get would information, and have worldwide views, therefore, I come Lewis & Clark College in order to take advantage of the exchange program at my university.
My dream is to be engaged in a job to help people in poverty in development countries and interact with different culture. The beginning of my dream was to study about world issues and international organization when I was in elementary school. Since then, I've been interested in culture of foreign countries and world issues, especially, children and education problems in developing countries. And I am also interested in being in touch with people with have different backgrounds. I 'd like to work on projects to help people in poverty be self-reliant and to sent goods to them after going engaged in NGO organizations.
In my study here, to enter undergraduate course is my best objective. And I'd like to major in International Affairs to study world issues, poverty problems and what students from the U.S. and other countries think about them. In addition to it, I'd like to try to participate as a volunteer and NGO. I am interested because these experiences would help me to achieve my goals.
This study abroad is one of steps for my goal. Therefore, I have to push myself for everything
