ISALC Friendship Family Program

As its name implies, the Institute for the Study of American Language and Culture not only focuses on teaching international students English and academic study skills, but also strives to offer students socio-cultural experiences which help to prepare them for life in the U.S. The Friendship Family Program is one means of achieving this objective. The program consists of Portland area residents (can be individuals, couples or families) who volunteer to contact ISALC students at least once a month, inviting them to accompany the family on an outing, share a meal, or simply spend some time in their home. The program is designed to provide a multicultural link between the international students and their Friendship Families and, in the process, to broaden the students' views of family life in the U.S.
