II. COURSE DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of this Earth Science course is to help you improve your English while studying basic science. Hopefully, you have studied much of this information in your home country and are ready to learn how to read, write and discuss it in English.

We will not be able to cover all of the textbook in the seven weeks we will study together. I hope we can cover 1 chapter each week and a half, or about five chapters in all. The chapters I plan to cover are:
1) Studying the Earth; 2) The Earth and Moon System 3) The Solar System 4) Weather and Climate and 5) Forces in the Earth.

We will read the text and do activities from the workbook. Bring both books to class each day. We also will do "hands-on" experiments, use activities from the World Wide Web, and make a field trip if possible.

III. GRADING:*

Homework/Graded Classwork - 40%
Quizzes and Exams - 40%
Participation/Cooperation/Attendance - 20%

Attendance is required for all ISALC classes. You are allowed only 3 absences during this class (3 times late = 1 absence). If you miss more, your grade will be lowered. There will be no make-up exams or quizzes.

Your Mod classes and Communication Skills classes are just as important as your Core class! Study hard!

We will learn a lot from each other this quarter. Please ask me about anything you don't understand and feel free to come see me in my office.
