I don't think they are fighting each other. They are good friends and frolicing each other. In terns picture, one term is giving the fish to another tern.
ESL 383 Kei 10/20/97 10:41 PM
I think they are friends because there are nothing to distinguish if they are foes. However, the last picture is different. I can see the fish between them. this means they are going to fight each other for the fish. So except this one, they are just friends or lover and are doing phyusical contact to show their feeling!
ESL 383 Young Chul 10/21/97 3:55 PM
It looks like a kind of snake which live in the deep sea. Actually I know this fish in korean name. But I can't translate it in english.
ESL 383 Hiromasa 10/21/97 8:45 PM
Actually I was hard to decide about the first picture because the eels faces look as if they are dead. Only opening their mouth gave a clue that they are fighting. The giraffes' picture is easy to decide because they looks like lover. The giraffe's eyes, standing on the left, seem to be filled with love and satisfied with situation. The last picture also show me they are lover. There are a male and female because their size and appearance, especially their hair, are different. I think the male is giving a present to his lover in this picture. It is romantic, isn't it? What do you think?
ESL 383 Kaminksi 10/22/97 10:35 AM
Remember, you need to decide "friend or foe" for EACH picture. It's not all the same answer.
Here is a clue: Hiromasa has the most complete, and most accurate answer so far! Two of his ideas are correct. Can you guess which one is not correct???
Assignment: What's Happening? Take a look at the picture. Describe what you think it is, or what is happening.

ESL 383 Goro 10/15/97 2:57 PM

I think there are two men standing and rowing a boat in the lake. Behind them, there are several tents. It is foggy day in the morning. What do you think? Am I right?
ESL 383 Kei 10/15/97 3:17 PM
I guess this is the picture that Beautiful Woman is dabbling in
the water, actually in the lake.
*Honestly speaking, I can't see her face at all, but I hope she is
very beautiful.

Assignment: Some of you have great ideas, very specific and "wishful thinking"! Here's a little better picture. Let's see what else you can figure out. What do you think now?
ESL 383 Mayu 10/15/97 2:51 PM
I think the boat is made from wood and it isn't tent, but cave. We can see blue sky and the shining light from the Sun. It is beautiful sceanery.
ESL 383 Kei 10/15/97 3:25 PM
Unfortunally, I think my guess was wrong. . . Never mind! Now I think this is the picture that one man is standing on a boat and row it with a long stick in the lake. Of course, the boat is made of wood because I can see its color is a kind of yellow and its shape is very natural. There are also big mountains around the lake. I guess this is very nice place to go! Seems like the man is feeling lonely, though. . . This is my investigation. How do you feel?
ESL 383 Ryoko 10/16/97 3:54 PM
I think a man is standing and rowing the boat with a bamboo stick in the lake. There are two people behind him and they are also rowing the boat. People can see so beautiful scenery of mountains. I think this picture is in China because of the shape of mountains. It's my opinion. What do you think?

ESL 383 Kaminski 10/17/97 8:16 AM
Assignment: Ryoko thinks this is in China. What do the rest of you think? You should be able to tell us more from this new "improved" picture! Be specific!
ESL 383 Kei 10/18/97 12:09 AM
I can't agree with Ryoko's opinion more!! As you can see, this guy is standing on the boat is absolutely Asian, and the mountain is just like one that I saw in the picture of China. So I guess this is in China, too. Moreover, the boat is like Chinese and a basket on the boat is also like Chinese. Therefore, this must be in China. I believe it.
I don't know what this guy on the boat is actually doing, but I think he is feeding birds or trying to get some fish, using his birds. If so, he must be a fisherman. Are there any ideas that are different from these? I think you all have better ideas of mine, though. That's all. . . was it specific?
ESL 383 Hiromasa 10/19/97 12:13 AM
I also agree Ryoko's opinion! I think this picture is about U-Kai. Do you know that? Although U-Kai is Japanese, this is traditional way of fish by using the bird. Now U-Kai become a kind of show for tourist in particular place in Japan. I'm not sure U-Kai is still exiting in China. However, I know the man holding the stick is not Japanese. If this man fishing on the boat is Japanese, this man should wear the a kind of traditional cloth to do U-Kai
Another reason I think this is in China is the shape of the mountains. We can see a lot of severely weathered mountains behind the lake. In addition, this kind of big and wide scenery should be in China.

Kaminksi 10/20/97 11:29 AM
Thief!!! Stealing a hrad earned meal!!!!
ESL 383 Ryoko 10/20/97 4:12 PM
In my opinion, the father is teaching his son the way of fishing with cormorants at 27th picture, and at 28th picture the son is actually fishing with cormorants.
ESL 383 Mayu 10/21/97 8:11 PM
This is one of the traditional way to catch the fish. I haven't seen it directly, but I had known that there are some parts to do that.
