Writing Assignment: Choose one incident or experience from the video and describe it through the eyes of one of the characters. For example, you could be Kunta Kinte. Tell about your capture by the slave traders. Use as much detail as possible. Describe the setting around you (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste). Describe your emotions. Try and paint a picture with your words for the reader. Use first person. (I . . . )

EX. The jungle around my village was steamy, lush and inviting in the morning sun. As I walked away from home, I could not imagine that any danger waited for me because I was a man--a warrior--and the jungle was my personal world to explore. . .

You will have the chance to write multiple drafts of this composition.

Audience: Your teacher and classmates (and potentially others if your composition appears in the ISALC Newsletter).

Evaluation: Your grade will be based on content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The number of drafts and quality of your revisions will also affect your grade. Minimum length-750 words.
