ACTIVITY TITLE:
FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET!
SUBJECT AREAS:
Neuroscience, Recording and analyzing data
YOUR INVESTIGATION:
Who do you think is the fastest student in the class? Ah....you're
thinking in terms of running! Are there other ways we can see how
fast we are? You are going to conduct 5 experiments to see who has the fastest
reflexes in the class. Who is "faster than a speeding
bullet"? Record your results on a large chart for the class to see.
Guide them in analyzing the data during your presentation of the results.
QUESTIONS TO GUIDE YOU:
- What is a reflex?
- What is a "pupillary response"?
- Why does the body need reflex action?
- What is a synapse?
- How does a reflex occur? What is the process and path?
