ACTIVITY TITLE: GIANTS AMONG US


SUBJECT AREAS: History, Science, Cultures, African Studies


YOUR INVESTIGATION:


Each one of us, no matter how tall, how old, what skin color, or what cultural background, can cast a giant shadow. Many such "giants" have walked among us, unknown to most of us, but we are constantly receiving the benefits of their work in our everyday lives. Search out three of these "giants" and demonstrate, in some concrete way, how their contributions have directly affected your life.


QUESTIONS TO ANSWER:

1. How have the efforts of these people advanced human understanding in the world around us?
   
2. What hardships did these people suffer in their struggle for an education and obtaining a job?
   
3. How has their work impacted on you directly? What daily chore or routine of yours is changed as a result?
   
4. How will their work affect your future?
   
5. Has their "giant shadow" given you an idea of what type of shadow you want to cast?
