ACTIVITY TITLE:
THE WORLD IS MY STAGE
SUBJECT AREAS:
Oceanography, Biology, Ecology, Geography, Writing & Language, Theater (Production, Staging, Acting)
YOUR INVESTIGATION:
You have been asked to produce a play for the students that will
educate them about the factors that threaten the survival of endangered
species of the oceans. You are determined to make this a tool for
learning, yet have some fun in the process. You've decided to have each
member of the cast portray a different creature telling its tale of
woe.
After you investigate this site, you will be able to set up your cast
of characters, create their dialogue and their interaction, and put the final production into "play".
QUESTIONS TO ANSWER:
- What are the things that threaten these species?
- What is the distribution of these species around the world?
- What conservation efforts are being practiced to try and save them?
- What things can the students do to help in the effort?
- What kind of a stage setting would best encompass all the
creatures you will be portraying?
- Can you design some simple, yet fun, costumes for them?
