SBA Hosts Valentine’s Day Festivities to Benefit PILP’s LRAP

Story and photos by Emily Davis

On Thursday, Feb. 11, SBA brought the spirit of Valentine’s Day to the law school. To raise money for PILP’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program for graduates who enter the field of public interest law, SBA sold pink and red cupcakes and cookies, index-card “kiddy valentines,” long-stemmed roses, and admission to a make-your-own valentine table.

Throughout the day, students usually found in library carrels and behind laptops sat together to sprinkle glitter on homemade construction-paper cards and share grade school memories. Making a good old-fashioned mess and cutting and pasting with actual scissors and glue (instead of on a computer screen) seemed to have a therapeutic effect on most participants, because just about everyone left with a smile. Or perhaps Cupid was about! Either way, the event was a financial success and uplifted the law school community with a unique event reminiscent of simpler times.

Margi Lifsey, struck by Cupid’s arrow, took a rare study break and exercised her right brain to make this collage of hearts for her valentine.
