Notes about Portland, Oregon

• Neighborhoods and Neighborhood Associations. The "Villages" in my World Model are called "neighborhoods" in Portland. I think of Portland's "neighborhoods" as associations of neighborhoods. To call a group of 22,000 residents "a neighborhood" seems misleading, since most rural towns have less than half that population. (I'm not saying that City Hall is misleading us).
• Our region is the Pacific Northwest.
• Metro is not a "regional" government. Metro is a (local) area government.
• Dignity Village is a neighborhood or watch group depending on its eventual size.

The Oregonian (usually) uses "Metro Area", and "The Region" correctly in their editorials. Sometimes headlines and articles are inconsistent. The Oregonian reports significant events, but does not see the big picture. The editorials are OK, but they only follow what is already obvious most of the time. They rarely propose anything themselves away from the status quo. If the City Club endorses an idea for Willamette County, the the Oregonian will likely follow, for one day, then business as usual.
