Language Intensive
CHILE: SANTIAGO (Fall/Spring/Full Year) - Prerequisites: 3 years of college Spanish. Grade point average of 3.0 in language. Program: Following a four-week advanced intensive Spanish language course, students enroll in regular university courses at the Universidad de Chile and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where they can choose from a wide range of course offerings in the humanities, social sciences and sciences. Housing is with Chilean host families. Fulfills the overseas study requirement for the Hispanic Studies major.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: SANTO DOMINGO (Fall/Spring/Full Year) (Fall/Spring/Full Year) - Prerequisite: Previous participation in the Santiago, Dominican Republic program or 3 years of of college Spanish. Program: Study focuses on history, culture, and current socioeconomic and political issues in the Dominican Republic. Based in Santo Domingo, the program includes a practicum where students are placed in field settings to gain exposure to development issues and to participate in social service programs. Students live with host families. Fulfills the two-course international studies and overseas study requirements for the Hispanic Studies major.

General Culture
CUBA: REGIONAL AREA STUDY(Spring) - Prerequisite: Spanish 301. Program: Academic study focuses on the study of the construction of the Cuban nation with emphasis on issues of race, slavery, socialism and relations with the U.S. The program will be based at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) and will include excursions to Santiago, Pinar del Rio and Trinidad.
ECUADOR: CUENCA (Spring) - Prerequisite: Spanish 201. Program: Academic study focuses on language study, history, natural history, and socioeconomic institutions in Ecuador. Following an orientation program in Quito, the program is centered in Cuenca and includes field trips to the Jatun Sacha (primary rain forest) as well as local areas of interest. Students live with host families while in Cuenca. Fulfills the two-course international studies requirement and fulfills the overseas study requirement for the Latin American Studies minor.
