The Lewis and Clark Paddling Club (LCPC) is organized to help build awareness through experience within the immense river resources of the Pacific Northwest. This club intends to help bring valuable experience to the college community by bringing students closer to nature, and the element of water. From a pool in the begginning, to rivers, and the Pacific Ocean, LCPC will facilitate education for kayaking skills. Our curriculum is based of American Canoe Association (ACA) and World Kayak Federation (WKF) guidelines. This curriculum has proven to be the most effective, and safe in existence today. The club has five main objectives:

  • To minimize risks and dangers by teaching beginning kayaking in the Lewis and Clark campus pool.
  • To adopt and implement the standards and methods of teaching and progression from the WKF and ACA.
  • To provide fun experiences while minimizing potential risks and hazards on Northwest rivers to complement the skills learned in the pool.
  • To learn the latest safety techniques involved with kayaking and swiftwater rescue
  • To organize multi-day trips throughout the country to engage students in outdoor education.
