Dear PNWPSA Colleague:

Please do join us for the Pacific Northwest Political Science Assn. Annual Meeting, Oct. 13-15th, at Idaho’s beautiful Coeur d'Alene Resort.

This LAST CALL FOR PAPERS gives you time to submit a proposal, along with offers to be a discussant or chair, to the organizer whose panel best fits your interest (see below).  THE DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 2ND.

We encourage you to stay at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. We have contracted for a block of rooms at conference rates: economy single or double occupancy is $115; deluxe rooms are $165. Reserve by calling 1-800-688-5253 and specifying the PNWPSA rate. Rates are guaranteed for participants until September 2nd, with no cancellation penalty until 7 days prior to arrival.  After September 2nd, the conference room rate is subject to availability.

Panelists are required to register by September 2nd in order to have their names in the program. There’s also an optional Lake Coeur d’Alene two-hour boat cruise on Friday. The $40 cost includes hors d'oeuvres with a no-host bar. A sell-out last time, so register soon!

Registration and a reception begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13th  co-hosted by PNWPSA and Gonzaga University’s Institute for Action Against Hate, the Institute for Human Rights Education, and the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations. Panels will be scheduled all day Friday and Saturday until 12:30 p.m.

Prof. Margaret Levi, currently President of the APSA is Friday’s luncheon speaker. The general business meeting is Saturday at 8:00 am with a continental breakfast.  A President-Elect and other officers will be elected as will two members of the Executive Council for two-year terms. Nominations welcome by e-mail: Ken.Hoover@wwu.edu , on forms available at registration, or from the floor.

The PNWPSA offers a great place to try out ideas, develop fresh insights, and experience the collegiality of a fine network of scholars and teachers. Prof. Margaret Levi’s reflections will be especially valuable. In a time of political extremism, it is most appropriate to revisit the scene of an epic confrontation between human rights activists and militant racists. We welcome our co-hosts for the opening reception.

I look forward to seeing you at the Coeur d'Alene Resort in October.

Sincerely,
Ken Hoover, PNWPSA President, 2004-05
Professor Emeritus of Political Science, Western Washington University
