Strong Performance at Team Race Champs
Apr 2, 2006

The Pio’s made team history once again by competing in their first ever team race qualifier regatta. As a full time member in the NW conference, the Pio’s are able to compete for bids to nationals in 6 collegiate events. This weekend the sailors came back for their strong performance in Portland nearly two months ago and gave the district a little added competition. The LC team started Saturday with a good race against PSU which they lost and another nail-biter with UO which they pulled together on the last beat. Round two left the Pios with their second win against WWU and a narrow defeat to UO. On Sunday the LC sailors started off strong with good control of PSU and WWU in a 2,3,4 and left the team eager to push for second overall. Unfortunately, the winds died off in the afternoon and the Pio’s went home with only the first two round robins to rely on. LC finished 3rd out of 5 teams behind PSU and UW. Congrats to Kyle Eaton 06, Alan Platner 09, Callie Burks 09, Ian Crozier 09, Alan Worf, and Leah O'Bryant 08 for some of LC best sailing to date!

The clinic gave the team an opportunity to work on boat-handling, race course tactics, rigging and speed with the assistance of some top notch coaches. The event went very well with the LC sailors and all left with something to work on.

The Windless Women of Mixdorf
Feb 12, 2006

LC finished in 7th but the regatta was never made official. Thanks for the effort ladies, guess it just wasn’t our week!

PSU Team Race
Feb 5, 2006

This weekend offered tough conditions for the 40+ sailors who showed up to team race on the Willamette River. Trying winds and a strong current frustrated the typical team race plays as 7 teams fought for the finish line. Saturday’s elimination round left the LC team in the bottom four ‘Silver Fleet’ after beating the UW, UO and PSU JV teams but narrowly missing a win against the varsity teams. Sunday’s race went undefeated for the Pio’s and the team finished in fourth overall, first in silver fleet. The team really showed in could stay competitive with the varsity sailors and should make for good sailing at the district qualifiers in April.

1,2 @ Forsh-Soph Regatta
Nov, 20, 2005

The LC Sailing Team sent a Co-Ed and Women’s team to the annual frosh-soph regatta in Bellingham this weekend. The two team’s shook up the competition with first and second in A fleet and 6th and 7th overall in a fleet of 17 teams. Winds were light and the fog was thick but the LC team showed the district that we’ve got a team that’s planning to stay competitive for years to come.

Back in the North-North
October 16, 2005
The LC Sailing team celebrated an anniversary this weekend by heading back to Seattle and the North-North regatta where last year’s revival of the team began. This year the team added five new sailors and brought both a varsity and women’s team. For the team captains, the growth of one year was profound. Light winds on Saturday limited races, but conditions improved for Sunday. LC ended up finishing in 8th and 11th, a marked improvement on last year's results.

September 18, 2005
Eight Lewis & Clark sailors traveled to Vantage, Washington this weekend to participate in the first WSU Cougar Cup. The sailors comprised two teams including the first ever LC women’s team. Wind was heavier at night than during the day, and a total of eight races were completed by each fleet. The LC teams finished close to each other and within striking distance of both the western team and the UW women’s team. Lewis and Clark’s performance this weekend turned a lot of heads, and indicated that an excellent season lies ahead.

This Will Be Huge
September 1, 2005
The new fall term has already brought several fresh sailors to the Lewis & Clark Sailing Team. It's first practice was held wednesday at the Willamette Sailing Club with PSU. For the first time since anyone can remember, all four LC boats were filled with LC sailors. Even now, before any recruiting efforts, it has already become clear that the team is stronger than ever, and can look forward to an enlarged presence in the NW district this season. A warm welcome to all new sailors and a happy return to the hardened veterans. Ready yourselves for a great season.
