What is the Coaching for Educational Equity Seminar?

To seriously address issues of educational equity requires those who work in education to depart from business as usual. This 4-day residential seminar provides the precious time and space for participants to critically reflect upon what it means to take up equity work in their local context in a thoughtful and proactive manner.

But I'm not a coach...

Whether you are an external partner, a school leader, or a classroom teacher, coaching is something that we all do on a daily basis to build capacity in those around us. Coaches play a variety of roles from mirror to team leader to facilitator to cheer leader. If you are a catalyst for improvement, a guide on the side, or someone who models what they expect from others, you are a coach!

Why attend the Coaching for Educational Equity Seminar?

The reason (s) for attending might be found in one or more of the questions below:

• Are you committed to identifying and eliminating policies, practices, and behaviors resulting from an inequitable school system?
• Do you have a clear theory of action for how to redesign school structures and re-culture school communities to create equitable schools?
• Do you find it challenging to facilitate honest and productive dialogue when issues of equity or inequity are raised in your school community?
• Are you frustrated with the slow progress your school community has made building bridges across difference, despite your commitment to do so?
• Do you think it would be strategic for you to learn and share with colleagues about coaching for educational equity?

• Willing to address equity issues on a personal as well as an intellectual level.
• Concerned about how race, class, gender and other forms of bias affect the process of school change, teaching, learning and achievement.

Time: Evening reception Monday through 3 p.m. on Friday

Location: Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, OR

Cost: $1,300 which includes lodging, food, and materials for the entire time
