Lasting Legacies

After three decades of service, several pillars of the campus community retire.

How is it possible to summarize a career in higher education that spans more than 30 years? The mind boggles at the sheer number of lectures prepared, papers graded, meetings attended, and books and articles written. But mostly, we marvel at the lives transformed.

This spring, in response to an offer of voluntary early retirement, several members of the Lewis & Clark community announced their retirements. We caught up with four of them―each of whom has served 30 years or more in a position of high student contact―and asked them to reflect on their experiences at Lewis & Clark.
