Mark Tratos JD ’79

Mark G. Tratos, Founding Shareholder of the Las Vegas office of the International Law Firm of Greenberg Traurig is past co-founder of Quirk & Tratos.  Mark is the past Chairman of the Board of the National Judicial College.  He is also the Chair of the Board of Visitors of Lewis & Clark Law School and past First Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lewis & Clark College.  He is Secretary of the Board of Directors of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts and past Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Smith Center for Performing Arts.  Mark is former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Entertainment Development Corporation and the CineVegas Film Festival and has served as general counsel and board member for the Nevada Institute of Contemporary Art and the Lied Children’s Discovery Museum. Mark was acknowledged as the Top Intellectual Property and Entertainment Lawyer in the State of Nevada in the 1999 and 2006 editions of The Nevada Business Journal, was honored as the 2001 Industry Leader of the Year by the UNLV Department of Tourism and Conventions, and was named one of Southern Nevada’s Most Influential Men by In Business, November, 2001.  Mark has been named as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of Intellectual Property law each year since 2002.  Mark was named Lawyer of the Year for Intellectual Property in Nevada by Best Lawyers in America for 2012, and Lawyer of the Year for Trademarks in Nevada by Best Lawyers in America for 2013 and 2016, and Lawyer of the Year in IP Litigation in Nevada by Best Lawyers in America for 2015 and 2017.

Mark is the author of the New York Bar Association’s Entertainment Treatise Chapters Entertainment on the Internet: The Evolution of Entertainment Production, Distribution, Ownership and Control in the Digital Age; and Exhibitions: Art and Artifacts Exhibits as an Expansion of the Entertainment Industry.

Mark has been a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas since 1984. He teaches Entertainment Law, Rights of Publicity and Privacy, and the Law of Cyberspace at UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law.  He has also taught the Business of Entertainment at UNLV’s Hotel College; and Entertainment and Fine Arts Law at the College of Fine and Performing Arts. Mark conducts Continuing Legal Education programs across the country on entertainment, Internet and multimedia law.  He has written numerous book chapters and articles, including several on Internet and Art Law Topics and the distribution of Entertainment content on the Internet.  He is a frequent lecturer and teacher in CLE programs across the United States.

Mark and his wife, Sandra, reside in Las Vegas and have three adult sons, Mark S., Daniel and Matthew and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth.  He is also grandfather to Penelope.
