      Karen Swehla Black BA ’87 recently completed her 11th year working at OMSI. She has enjoyed trips to Uzbekistan, Peru, and Chile over the last few years.

      Mark Brody BA ’87, a Portland-based mosaic artist, has his work on display all over the Portland area–in schools, homes, offices, and parks. Recently, he helped guide students in creating a freestanding mural for Bryant Elementary School in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

      Mark Brody BA ’87, who is a mosaic artist as well as a big fan of the Portland Timbers, was featured on the team’s website. He discussed his love of soccer, the Timbers, and his work with Portland-area schools.

      Sarah Jo Chaplen BA ’87, MPA ’93 has joined Oak Lodge (Oregon) Water Services as general manager. Previously, she was city manager for Hillsboro, Oregon.

      Larry Conner MA ’87 was awarded the Distinguished Public Advocate Award by the Oregon Counseling Association in honor of his 10 years of successful political work on behalf of the counseling and marriage and family therapy professions in Oregon. As a lobbyist for the profession, he has been instrumental in writing and successfully passing five statutes on behalf of Oregon counselors. One of the statutes was the Practice Act, which gave licensed professional counselors and licensed marriage and family therapists the right to receive health insurance reimbursement for their work. Larry has been a licensed professional counselor in Portland for 30 years.

 Lewis & Clark Law School. Craig is a partner with Stoel Rives in Portland.

      Mike Daus BS ’87 is the owner, founder, and COO of Jackson Hole POP, an artisan popcorn company. One of their creative flavors, “I’m Your Huckleberry,” was featured in United Airline’s Hemispheres as a recommended gift idea for readers. POP has also appeared in Food Network Magazine.

      Beth Halvorsen BA ’87 and her husband, Patrick, recently hosted L&C President Wim Wiewel at their home in Clyde Hill, Washington, along with more than 70 alumni, parents, and future Pioneers. It was a great way to meet the new president and hear remarks on his plans for Lewis & Clark. Halvorsen, managing director for CBRE, has worked in commercial real estate for over 30 years. She is currently responsible for CBRE’s asset services division for the Seattle and Portland markets. Beth and Patrick have three children.

      William P. Harper, Professional Licensure ’87, August 25, 2019, age 79. Harper was a teacher of physical education and health in Oregon and Washington, as well as a sports coach. He later served as principal of a small early elementary school. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rose Mary; his children, Kristine and Paul; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

      Was recognized as the 2013 Foster Volunteer of the Year by the Humane Society of Southwest Washington. Juday and his wife, Susan, provided intensive in-home care and treatment for more than 30 severely ill cats and kittens last year. Before retiring in 2005, he practiced law in Vancouver, Washington, where he chaired the Southwest Washington Lawyer Referral Service; served as a bar association trustee; was a member of the Superior Court Bench-Bar, Law Library, and Public Relations Committees; and provided pro bono services through the Clark County Volunteer Lawyer Program. Juday also chaired the 16-member Washington State Bar Association Character and Fitness Board.

      Was elected to the board of directors for the Oregon Repertory Singers (ORS), a choral arts nonprofit organization consisting of six choirs. Kelley, who has sung with the group for the past five years, will serve as secretary.

      Joined Portland law firm Bodyfelt Mount as a partner. Kent, an experienced litigator, focuses her practice on employment and insurance issues. Previously, she was the managing attorney and lead trial attorney for Zurich North America Insurance Company in Portland. She also volunteers as a judge and coach for high school mock trial competitions.

      Charles McNulty BS ’87 is superintendent for the Pulaski County (Arkansas) Special School District. Previously, he was associate superintendent for educational services in the Waterloo (Iowa) Community School District.

      Anthony Misseldine JD ’87 joined the firm of Jackson White in Mesa, Arizona, as a shareholder. Misseldine focuses his practice on eminent domain, inverse condemnation, commercial real estate valuation, land use litigation, and complex commercial lawsuits. He has extensive experience providing litigation services at trial and his clients include property owners, private companies, and national corporations. He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, as well as a former member of the State Bar of Arizona professionalism committee. He received the AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the leading lawyer rating and referral service. Misseldine is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Arizona, U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.

      Leslie Thatcher BA ’87 was appointed director of college success at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts, in 2018. She leads an innovative nine-month residential program for blind and visually impaired high school graduates to help prepare them for the challenges of college. In addition, Thatcher manages a small national educational consulting business, Thatcher Education, which focuses on college advising and executive function coaching.
