What would you like to leave behind in the darkness of 2022? In Art for Social Change’s Third Annual Winter Solstice Cleansing Ceremony we will use a burning ceremony to cleanse ourselves and our community of any bad memories, thoughts, events, energy, grievances, or traumas that we would like to leave behind in 2022. All posts must be submitted by Monday, December 19th, 2022. Submissions are open to anyone.
This session focuses on exploring social, racial, or political current events and we create art and dialogue about their impact on our communities and work together toward social change. We will be working on supporting individual work and creating a pandemic quilt which examines oppression and the inequities revealed by the pandemic.
We are a committee of Black, Brown, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPoC) and anti-racists from Lewis & Clark. We are composed of faculty, staff, students and alumni from our undergraduate, graduate and law campuses. Our mission is to create and display art that amplifies and centers BIPoC minds and bodies acknowledging racism with the objective of social change. We intend to do this through harm reduction and prevention, relationship repair, continuous learning and listening and reflecting upon BIPoC lived experiences through stories and art. Art in relationship transforms lives, builds community, examines social constructs, raises critical consciousness and creates a more just society.
