Class of 2018
CHHAILEANG SUN (CHHAI) was born and raised in Sisophon, a small town in the Northwest of Cambodia. Chhai attended Armand Hammer United World College of the American West (UWC-USA) in 2012. He graduated from UWC-USA in 2014 and continued to pursue a B.A. in Economics at Lewis & Clark College. The diversity, opportunity, and support of this college gave him a wonderful college experience. Chhai took advantages of his time in LC by joining different clubs such as Amnesty International and participating in school’s events such as the annual International fair. In addition, he gained work experience by working in different departments as a student worker. Chhai really enjoyed working at the Finance and Business Office. The enormous support and generosity of the staff from the Business Office, and their willingness to teach and help, made it the best working experience for him at LC. In spring semester of his junior year, Chhai participated in an oversea program to Australia that allowed him to gain a deeper insight into Australian history, culture, and environment. While in Australia, he was able to use his knowledge of economics to conduct a semester research project on Australian Property Market. In his senior year, Chhai studied the relationship between political stability and foreign direct investment (Evidence from Asia) as a subject for his senior thesis. Chhai was nominated by the Economics Department to present his senior research at the annual festival of scholars. Chhai graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 2018. He is currently working in the financial and banking sector at a firm in Portland. He is also interested in working in the economic development side, and planning to pursue a higher education in the future.
Chhai likes to read, write a book, take pictures, listen to music, and watch movies during his free time. His favorite sports are soccer and kickboxing.
