All are invited to a brief musical tribute to William Stafford featuring musical settings of four of Stafford’s poems composed by Lewis & Clark music faculty and students.This event is is FREE, open to the public and presented as part of the William Stafford Centennial celebration at Lewis & Clark.
The George V. Bishop Opera Theatre Workshop presents “Unfortunate Love: A musical Theatre Revue”on April 11, 2014 at 8:00 pm in Evans Auditorium. This program features ensembles and solos depicting various kinds of forbidden or unfortunate love, including scenes from West Side Story. This event is FREE for LC students, $5 LC faculty/staff, seniors and alumni, $10 general admission.
Challenges to state security increasingly come from rebel groups within states. Given the changing nature of global conflict, should governments find new ways of combating insurgencies that include political, economic, and diplomatic means? Or is this focus on winning hearts and minds simply gilded nation building that results in protracted wars and quagmires?
What role do visual media play in shaping our perception of international affairs? What can the camera capture that the written word leaves out? Is it possible to truthfully depict global social and political struggles and relay information honestly, or is bias an inevitable part of telling the story?

David Salkowski presents his senior composition recital, “Let Us Compare Mythologies,” on April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Agnes Flanagan Chapel. With works for various chamber ensembles, the music will explore the evolving mythos of American culture. Premieres include songs on texts of Pynchon and Stafford, instrumental music after Infinite Jest, and more. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Joe Conway ’02 will discuss his experience as a writer, his book and the movement he is documenting. Get Back, Stay Back: 2nd Generation Back-to-the-Landers in Maine is published by The Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art. Supported by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, the book is being released in conjunction with the larger Publication Studio project, which originated in Portland, Oregon and has since spread to eleven cities throughout North America and Europe.
