George V. Bishop
Vocal Performance Workshop
This event has in part been made possible by a grant from the George V. Bishop Fund for musical performance, established to honor the late George V. Bishop who was a member of the Music Department faculty at Lewis & Clark College for 26 years, beginning in 1946. Bishop, a professional tenor, taught voice and was the founder of the Madrigals Choral Group that sang Renaissance music throughout the Portland area and beyond. He believed that opera should be acted as well as sung and founded the Opera Workshop. Known for his zest for life, gifted teaching, and love of young people, he was popular among students and faculty until his retirement in 1972.
