The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Spiritual Life are pleased to present another workshop in the “Inclusive Practices” series. Please note this session is open to all LC employees including faculty, staff, and graduate student’s working on campus. 

This workshop will provide:

  • Information on a variety of significant religious holidays including when these holidays occur, their meaning and purpose, and the way these holidays are ordinarily observed
  • Discussion of some of the key issues involved for our community when students and employees observe these religious holidays and when accommodations might be helpful
  • An opportunity to share Ideas about how we can help make the Lewis & Clark community better informed about these religious holidays and how we can encourage mutual respect and ways to support religious holiday observances
  • Discussion about religious holiday decorations on campus, and ways to be inclusive when decorating and celebrating for traditional holidays

Workshop objectives:

  • Learn about major religious holidays and better understand the important aspects and practices involved in observing these holidays
  • Learn where to find the current Lewis & Clark religious holidays calendar and how to use this calendar in helpful ways, and where to find out additional useful information about religious holidays
  • Become familiar with some of the benefits and challenges of encouraging active religious observance of holy days here in our campus community
  • Be introduced to the draft religious observance policy and understanding its role in encouraging diversity and inclusion
  • Identify ideas for helping all employees to decorate for holidays using an inclusive approach

Lewis & Clark Spiritual Life staff members Mark Duntley and Hilary Martin Himan
