Intro to Backpacking (Overnight Clinic)
Date: 5:00pm PDT September 11 - 12:00pm September 12 Location: Sequoia Building
Haven’t backpacked before? Learn the basics in an overnight trip to a nearby area where we have special permission to camp. We’ll leave from campus and hike to a forested location where we’ll teach you how to set up your single person tent (provided).
Grab your “to go” dinner from Bon Appetit and meet at the Sequoia Yard (west end of Sequoia building, outside) to start our trip.
College Outdoors will provide (at no extra charge) your backpack, any clothing you need, hiking boots, sleeping bag, tent, water purification, stove, etc. You’ll receive tips on packing your pack before we hike to the forest in which we’ll set up camp and spend the night. (just bring your personal items in a duffle bag or pillow case from your dorm, to add to your pack- you’ll get a packing list). Learn to use stoves, set up rain tarps, stormproof your tent, purify water, and other outdoor skills.
This is a great way to learn everything you need to know to backpack on your own, or with friends, or on more advanced College Outdoors backpacking trips in the future.
No Experience Necessary! If you have never been camping or backpacking before, this is a great place to start, we’ll teach you everything you need to know.
