Backpacking Leadership Clinic Section 2

Date: 5:00pm PDT September 26 - 12:00pm September 27 Location: Sequoia Building

  • Backpack training trip 2019

Sequoia Building

This training clinic is designed for new Student Coordinators, who are interested in developing their leadership and outdoor skills. Everyone who has submitted a Student Coordinator application is welcome - so if you want to attend this trip and get involved with leadership at College Outdoors, be sure you have submitted your application here!

On this trip you’ll learn about how our trips are run, practice your interpersonal leadership skills, and develop your backpacking skills. No experience necessary! To become a leader with College Outdoors all you need is enthusiasm, we provide all the equipment and can teach you all the skills!

On this overnight trip we’ll leave from campus and hike to a nearby forested location where we have special permission to camp. Grab your “to go” dinner from Bon Appetit and meet at the Sequoia Yard (west end of Sequoia building, outside) to start our trip.

College Outdoors will provide (at no extra charge) your backpack, any clothing you need, hiking boots, sleeping bag, tent, water purification, stove, etc. You’ll receive tips on packing your pack before we hike to the forest in which we’ll set up camp and spend the night. (just bring your personal items in a duffle bag or pillow case from your dorm, to add to your pack- you’ll get a packing list).

This is the first step to becoming a Trip Leader! Learn to manage groups, navigate, use stoves, set up rain tarps, stormproof your tent, purify water, and other outdoor skills.
