Labyrinth Walk

Date: 11:00am - 5:00pm PST February 11, 2015 Location: Gregg Pavilion

Gregg Pavilion

This is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to engage in the spiritual exercise of walking a labyrinth.  Labyrinth walking is an ancient form of spiritual meditation and contemplation that transcends traditional religious boundaries.  Come and experience the simplicity and peace of this timeless spiritual practice.  Located in the Gregg Pavilion right next to Agnes Flanagan Chapel, you are welcome to come by to walk the labyrinth anytime between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11th.

How to walk the labyrinth:  There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. Labyrinth walks are sometimes referred to as “body prayer” or walking meditation.  The entrance can be a place to stop, reflect, make a prayer or an intention for the spiritual walk you are about to take.  One way to start is to “quiet the mind, and open the heart”.  When you begin walking, allow your mind to be quieted.

Some suggest that you may want to see the walk as three parts to a whole experience, but for different people these three parts may actually take place at different stages of the walk.  1. The walk around the design to the center can be a “letting go” - a quieting of the thoughts, worries, lists of tasks to do, a letting go unto the experience of being present in the body.  2.  Arrival at the center can serve as a place of prayer or meditation, a “letting in” of a spiritual or divine guidance.  3. When ready, the walk back out from the center of the labyrinth can be a “letting out” that takes us back into our lives, empowered by a spiritual vitality to transform our lives and actions.

A labyrinth walk is often experienced as a transformational spiritual tool for people. It can aid healing, help in releasing grief, help guide through troubled times, aid in decision making, illuminate our purpose in life, and act as a tool of celebration and thanks.
