The exhibit will be making its only appearance in Portland following a two year traveling schedule that included The Tho mas Jefferson Library at Monticello\, The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia and the Boston Athenaeum. The exhibit\, curated by Stephen D ow Beckham\, Pamplin Professor of History\, features sixty rare items fro m the College's collection of expedition-related printed material. Presid ent Thomas J. Hochstettler will provide introductory remarks for the even ing. This exhibit draws from the extensive collection of books\, maps\, manuscripts\, newspapers and literary materials on the expedition at Lewi s &\; Clark College. The exhibit shares highlights of the holdings. Th e College has thousands of volumes on Native Americans\, exploration and travel\, and the history of the American West. Concurrent with this exhib it\, the College has published The Literature of the Lewis and Clark Expe dition: A Bibliography and Essays (2003)\, with bibliography by Douglas E rickson\, Jeremy Skinner\, and Paul Merchant and essays by Stephen Dow Be ckham. The book provides detailed information for readers\, researchers\, book collectors and others wanting to explore the expedition and its imp act over the past 200 years.
