Appearing in co nfigurations ranging in size between four and twenty\, the ensemble striv es to promote and play music by young composers whose music reflects our time and its aesthetics. In a time where orchestras and performing arts organizations struggle to stay afloat\, the MPO has a mission of giving c hamber music to an audience who otherwise might not seek it out\, by incl uding styles and instruments that are less commonly found in a chamber mu sic setting\, and performing music that has an intuitive appeal to its au diences. On Thursday\, September 14th\, the Music Population Project wil l bring these ideas into practice once again at Lewis &\; Clark Colleg e\, inviting students\, faculty and the surrounding Portland community to a free concert featuring both the Music Population Orchestra and Upper L eft Trio. The two groups will join forces for parts of their sets in a un ique collaboration featuring pieces from Upper Left Trio's two CDs and th e orchestral premier of "here we are in the stone age" by Brede Rørstad '03. Performers in the orchestra will include James Brown '07\, Kelly Mey er '06\, Megan Moran '05\, Lynn Vannier '05\, Michele Anderson '04\, and Jesse Brooke '03.
