Friends of Rain is Lewis &\; Clark's faculty new music ensem ble. The group performs music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries \, with a focus on music of the past fifty years. The ensemble's spring semester concert features a variety of colorful and exciting works. The p rogram features the magical\, evocative sound world of well-known America n composer George Crumb's "Music for a Summer Evening\;" two exciting\, r hythmically vibrant works by featured guest composer Ileana Perez-Velazqu ez\; "Arioso interrotto\," an enchanting work for solo violin by Finnish composer Einar Englund\; Lewis &\; Clark faculty composer Michael Joha nson's "Summer Rhapsody" for Brass Quintet\; and Chen Yi's stunning octet "Sparkle." Guest composer Ileana Perez-Velazquez is professor of music at Williams College\, where she teaches composition\, theory\, and electr onic music. During her visit to Lewis &\; Clark\, she will meet with c omposition students and will deliver a pre-concert lecture on her music a t 7:15 p.m. Friends of Rain will perform her compositions "Nanahual" for soprano and piano and "Un Ser encantado\, aguas saladas y piedras infini tas" for two pianists and two percussionists.
