A special cooperative arrangemen
t exists between Lewis &\; Clark College and the Middlebury Institute
of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS)\, formerly the Monterey Insti
tute of International Studies\, an excellent West Coast professionally-or
iented interdisciplinary graduate program in international relations. The
agreement allows Lewis and Clark students who have majored in Internatio
nal Affairs to go to MIIS for an accelerated program (48 credits and 3 se
mesters\, instead of 60 credits and 4 semesters) for these master's progr
ams: International Policy and Development\; Public Administration (MPA)\;
and Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies. Students who qualify and tak
e advantage of this program are guaranteed a $10\,000 annual scholarship.
The application fee for this program is also waived for LC students.

DESCRIPTION:This year\, we are excited to bring Aman Ali to speak on "Cha
nging Narratives". Mr. Ali will talk about how he incorporates his Indian
\, American and Muslim background into his current work and how he uses h
is work to\, in return\, help uplift those communities that have formed h
im. We believe bringing Mr. Ali will evoke insightful discussion about w
hat being a TCK truly means. Third Culture Kids are people raised in a cu
lture other than their parents' or the culture of the country named on th
eir passport for a significant part of their early development years. Thi
s includes first and second generation immigrants like Mr. Ali who's pare
nts came to America for a better life. Mr. Ali has been recognized as on
e of the most popular social media personalities in the Muslim American c
ommunity today. He's made appearances on dozens of media outlets such as
the New York Times\, CNN\, HBO\, BBC\, and NPR. His project 30 Mosques in
30 Days – a 25\,000 mile road trip he took driving to all 50 states in
the U.S. with the mission of telling groundbreaking stories of Muslim Am
ericans made him one of the top newsmakers of 2010 by CNN. This event is

zation working with marginalized Roma-Gypsy communities inside embattled
Serbian enclaves. He later joined Save the Children in the UK and earned
his MA in International Politics and Security at Bradford University. I
n 2005\, Jonathan joined Doctors Without Borders / Medicins Sans Frontier
es\, spending the next decade managing medical programs in conflict zones
and areas of indescribable humanitarian need including South Sudan\, Eth
iopia\, India\, Democratic Republic of Congo\, Uganda\, Liberia\, and els
ewhere. He spent much of his career responding to\, for example\, Ebola V
irus outbreak\, the Syrian conflict\, and famine in the Horn of Africa
all of which were (in)directly caused by climate change. Realizing he
was going to work every day to address the humanitarian fallout of a sick
planet\, in 2017 - after four years as Deputy Executive Director of Doct
ors Without Borders Canada - Jonathan decided to transition into the role
of Executive Director of Health In Harmony. He now leads this Portland-b
ased planetary health organization working at the intersection of human a
nd ecosystem health in order to reverse deforestation of tropical rain fo
rests and curb global warming.
