Bridget Flaherty joins the Office of International Students and Scholars

Bridget Flaherty has been selected as the new assistant director of the Office of International Students and Scholars. She will begin on Monday, June 20.

Bridget Flaherty has been selected as the new assistant director of the Office of International Students and Scholars. She will begin on Monday, June 20. According to Brian White, incoming director of International Students and Scholars, “Bridget’s combination of hands-on experience, obvious enthusiasm for international education, and communication skills deeply impressed our selection committee. Bridget was our top choice and I am very pleased that she is joining us.”

Bridget has been serving as an international student advisor at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for the past two years, advising international students in addition to assisting with cultural programming and intercultural training on campus. 

She has a master’s degree in Communication Studies with an intercultural emphasis from the University of Montana, in which she focused on developing intercultural training for specific departments on campus. She has also interned and taken workshops at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication in Portland and she was a member of Class VII of the NAFSA Academy in 2010. 

She has worked in various areas of education, including spending a year in Japan teaching English as a second language. Originally from Missoula, Montana, she previously lived in Portland while attending the University of Portland and later worked at the Art Institute of Portland.
