With its focus on integrated sustainability, Lewis & Clark earned the top Oregon spot in Sierra magazine’s “Coolest Schools” list.

From classes in environmental studies to student-run gardens, Lewis & Clark integrates sustainability at every level, making it the top Oregon pick for Sierra magazine’s “Coolest Schools” list.

Lewis & Clark jumped 40 places on the Sierra Club list of 118 colleges and universities, moving from #77 in 2010 to #37 in 2011. Rankings are based on surveys (PDF) that track energy supply, efficiency, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, administration, financial investments, and a catch-all called “other initiatives.” Each category is worth a maximum of 10 points, for a possible grand total of 100. Lewis & Clark received nine points in the administration category and eight points for academics.
