Pioneer athletes continue outstanding seasons

Women’s cross country takes conference title, Pioneer football continues perfect season

The Lewis & Clark women’s cross country team earned its second consecutive Northwest Conference (NWC) Championship last weekend, after leading the conference all season. The men’s team also had a solid race, finishing in fourth place. Illana Livstrom ’13 won the women’s race to become Lewis & Clark’s second-ever NWC individual champion.

Lewis & Clark’s football team, meanwhile, came from behind to beat Pacific Lutheran 34-32 on Saturday. The win continues the Pioneers undefeated season and leaves the team tied with Linfield at the top of the NWC standings. The Pioneers are now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play in what so far has been the program’s best season since 1963. On Wednesday, the team learned it had cracked the NCAA rankings for the first time; the Pioneers are now ranked 10th in the Division III West Region. The women’s basketball team received a boost as it continued preparations for its season opener, Friday, November 4 at Northwest Nazarene. The Pioneers cracked the National Top 25 rankings in the D3hoops.com preseason poll. In ranking Lewis & Clark 25th, D3hoops noted the return of Kristina Williams ’13, last year’s conference player of the year, and three key seniors, Megan Spence, Margaret Dowling, and Neva Hauser.
