1951

Donn Deal ’51 is now settled (hopefully permanently) in St. George, Utah, where he is enjoying life to its fullest.

1953

Raleigh McVicker ’53 taught choral music in Astoria and Milwaukie high schools before earning a master’s degree in music in 1960 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. From 1960 until his retirement in 1987, he was an instructor at Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington, and director of the Bremerton Symphony Chorale. He directed both symphony and chorale concerts and was elected into the Olympic College Hall of Fame. He still gives organ recitals and recently accompanied his son and trumpet player, Michael McVicker, in the Walton Music Trust and Riverside Community Church advent concert.

1954

Philip Lang ’54 served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1961 to 1979 and was speaker of the house from 1975 to 1979. He retired as vice president of North Pacific Insurance Company in 1995. Lang was appointed chairman of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission in 1998 and reappointed in 2003. He is currently chairman-elect of the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association.

1955

Curt Copenhagen ’55 worked for Jantzen swimwear, International Paper Company, and the Longview Chamber of Commerce before he moved to Fibre, Washington, where he is director of public affairs for Longview Fibre Company. In October, he received the Ted Young Award from the Oregon Forest Industries Council. He serves on the board for the Association of Washington Business and the Washington Forest Protection Association. He and his wife, Jane Fish Copenhagen ’56, have a son, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
