Shannon O’Leary, assistant professor of physics, has received a $35,000 Cottrell College Science Award from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. The award supports research through early career grants to either teams of faculty or individuals.
O’Leary’s project, “Understanding Noise from Quantum Interference for a Novel Atomic Magnetometer,” investigates the interactions between light and matter within a highly sensitive magnetic field.
Over a two-year period, O’Leary and her student researchers will build a novel atomic magnetometer prototype derived from a noise-based spectroscopic technique.
