2000

Peter Berkhout ’00 worked as a riverboat captain in Boston during the summer of 2002. He is now in Mill Valley, California, teaching physics at his alma mater, Tamalpais High School. He is pursuing a teaching credential at Dominican University of California.

Aaron Blackwell ’00 has begun a new job at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he works in the Mood Disorder Clinic/Hepatitis C Resource Center as a medical writer and research assistant. In addition to writing medical grant proposals and journal articles, he is pursuing a career writing science fiction. In July 2002, Blackwell returned with a nearly completed novel after nine months living and traveling in South America. He has since been working regularly with a critique group and exploring the world of publishing (and rejection letters!).

Steven Burke JD ’00 recently celebrated his first year as a sole practitioner. Burke’s business litigation firm is now in John’s Landing.

Kathy Carlson ’00 manages public relations, outreach, and Web development as the public information specialist for the Southwest Clean Air Agency in Vancouver, Washington. She also plays African marimba with the White Rhino Marimba Ensemble. 

Aimee L. Evans MA ’00 lives with her husband, Jake, in Seattle. Evans, a community mental health therapist, is currently taking time away from her practice to be a full-time mom.

Jared Hager ’00 is pursuing his JD at the University of Minnesota Law School. He was ranked first in his class of 250 for the 2001-02 school year.

Scott Kennedy ’00 is a medical student at Oregon Health & Science University. 

Amanda Storer Ménage ’00 lives in Equatorial Guinea, where her husband, Cyrille, is on assignment as a project manager for Bouygues construction. She volunteers for Ecofac, a network of Central African wildlife reserves run by the European Union. Her projects include designing and writing copy for a multilingual informative guide to the Monte Alen National Park, and teaching people to make soap and cosmetics from scratch using local medicinal plants.

Sean O’Day JD ’00 has joined Stoel Rives as an associate. Previously he served on Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber’s staff as deputy legal counsel. Prior to that, O’Day worked as judicial clerk to Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court Wallace P. Carlson Jr.

Jeffrey Piampiano JD ’00 has relocated to Portland, Maine, where he joined the law firm of Drummond Woodsum & MacMahon.

Justin Rae ’00 and his wife, Sarah Lauger ’01, live in Seattle. Rae is pursuing an M.BA and manages a bankruptcy law firm. Lauger attends Seattle University School of Law.

Andrew Rice ’00 has moved to Wisconsin, where he teaches TV weather announcers to create graphics for their newscasts.

Katherine Schoeneman ’00 is attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in forensic psychology. Schoeneman’s current research focuses on identifying risk factors of those who make threats toward members of the U.S. government. She lives in Lincoln with her partner and pet rat. 

Radovan Vadovic ’00 is in a graduate program in economics at the University of Arizona. His interests include mechanism design, e-commerce, and online auctions.

Joe S. Whitworth JD ’00, executive director of Oregon Trout, recently received a Portland Business Journal “Forty Under 40” award. The awards are given to young overachievers, based on their professional accomplishments, community involvement, and professional recognition.

Katie Thomas Winder ’00 married in August 2000 and moved to Baltimore. She is enrolled in a PhD program in economics at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in labor and education economics. She and her husband play basketball on the economics department team.

2001

Jeffer M. Daykin MAT ’01 teaches social studies at Quest Academy in Tigard and is married to Elizabeth Bone.

Clark L. Deichler JD ’01 is an associate of Grantland Blodgett & Shaw. His practice focuses on general civil litigation, domestic relations, and criminal defense. Previously, Deichler spent six years in the U.S. Army, serving tours in Korea and at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Laura Gillespie JD ’01 has joined the Portland law firm of Gordon & Meneghello as an associate. Her practice will focus her practice on representing management interests in all areas of labor and employment law.

Nasreen Ilias ’01 is studying medicine at Oregon Health & Science University.

Jules Kopel-Bailey ’01 recently taught and studied in Guilin, China. He is working toward a career in international ocean protection.

Randy P. McClure JD ’01 recently accepted a position as chemical incident investigator with the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazardous investigation Board in Washington, D.C. The board is an independent oversight agency with a mandate to investigate catastrophic chemical incidents. It also makes recommendations to Congress and the chemical industry aimed at improving safety.

Daniel Metcalf ’01 is in the Peace Corps in Ghana.

Richard E. Oberdorfer JD ’01 and S. Patricia Flanagan JD ’98 were recently married. Oberdorfer joined Flanagan’s firm, now known as Oberdorfer Law Office.

Jungjin Park JD ’01 joined the Korean law firm of Kim Shin & Yu after passing the New York bar. His practice focuses on international business transactions and maritime law.

Cameron Parker ’01 moved to Auburn, Maine, last year to teach and develop curriculum at the Auburn Land Lab for the local school district.

Dainen Penta JD ’01 received an LLM degree from the University of Washington last June.

Benita Altamirano Riesgraf ’01 is in New Mexico pursuing a master’s degree in liberal arts. Last year, she and her husband took an eight-week motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia and also traveled to London as the winners of a Harry Potter Castle Adventure trip.

Ellen Sanders ’01 has moved to Philadelphia.

Sharon Saye JD ’01 is a deputy district attorney in Clatsop County.

Amber Vierling JD ’01 is deputy district attorney for Curry County.

Justin Voss ’01 works in the admissions office at Whittier College in California and is married to Amanda Barth.

2002

Scott Althouse JD ’02 has joined the fisheries department of the Nez Perce tribe in Idaho. Althouse will negotiate and implement tribal contracts and provide strategic consultation to fishery managers.

Kristine M. Bingman JD ’02 has joined the research and publications department of TOC Management services, a nonprofit membership employers association. The company represents employers and provides guidance on employment law, health benefit costs, and pension funds.

Heather Christie ’02 serves as a victim advocate and case manager at the Rape assistance and Awareness program in Denver. She plans to start a master’s degree program at the Audubon Expedition Institute in September.

Benjamin Levy ’02 plays the accordion at concerts in the Portland area. A self-taught accordionist, Levy is working on a full-length audio collection of his performances.

Celeste Miller ’02 is enrolled in a master’s degree program in journalism at S.I. Newhouse School of Public communications at Syracuse University.

Marisa Rogoway JD ’02 has joined the litigation department at Miller Nash in Portland.

Daniel Satterlee ’02 lives in Washington, D.C., where he works for the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee.

Linnea Jean Thompson ’02 is enrolled in a master’s degree program at OGI School of Science and Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University.

Oliver Waldman JD ’02 is executive director of Salmon for All in Astoria.
