Student launches online advocacy tool for peers

Sophomore Nicola Warmuth, together with college students from across the country, launched Textbooks4Change, with the dream of making back-to-school shopping an opportunity for advocacy.

Sophomore Nicola Warmuth, together with a group of college students from across the country, launched Textbooks4Change, with the dream of making back-to-school shopping an opportunity for advocacy.

Through a partnership with Textbooks.com, the students designed the Textbooks4Change portal as a way for their peers to support the Courage Campaign, an initiative working to repeal Proposition 8 in California. When purchases are made through the Textbooks4Change site, roughly 6 percent of their total purchases is donated to the Courage Campaign, in the interest of advocating for marriage equality.

Warmuth, now the Northwestern Regional Campaign Director for Textbooks4Change, said one of the most exciting aspects of the project is the opportunity for students to contribute to a cause they care about, despite not having a lot of disposable income.
