Support available for those impacted by Clackamas shooting
Dear Community Members,
We were all shocked to learn yesterday of the shootings at Clackamas Town Center. Our hearts go out to those affected by the shootings.
To the best of our knowledge, none of our community members were injured in the shootings. Yet we know that the shootings have impacted community members emotionally. A tragedy like this violates our sense of safety. Moreover, we know that there were thousands of individuals in the mall when the shootings occurred, so it is possible that some of our community members were involved in a peripheral way. This event may also be especially difficult for community members who have experienced other losses due to violence.
We want to make you aware that, from noon until 5 p.m. today, the Gregg Memorial Pavilion will be open as a place for community members to sit, reflect, meditate, light candles or offer prayer in respect for those affected by this or other violence.
For students who might be especially affected by these events, resources include:
- The Counseling Service (503-768-7160)
- The office of Religious and Spiritual Life (503-768-7082)
- Ombuds Office (503-768-7336)
- Campus Living staff in the Residence Halls
Resources for employees include the Cascade Centers employee assistance program (1-800-433-2320).
– John Hancock, Ed.D. Associate Dean of Students Director of Wellness Services, Chief Psychologist
