Passages: Nick Sylvester Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life for Nick Sylvester will be held on Monday, February 4th at 4:30 PM in Agnes Flanagan Chapel.  Nick was a senior Math and Computer Science major from Chico, California.  A reception will follow immediately after the celebration.

A Celebration of Life for Nick Sylvester will be held on Monday, February 4, at 4:30 p.m. in Agnes Flanagan Chapel. Nick was a senior Math and Computer Science major from Chico, California. A reception will follow immediately after the celebration.

Nick was born on August 10, 1991 and died on January 1, 2013. He is survived by his parents Rob and Carol, and his brother Matthew and sister Megan. He was valedictorian from Chico High School in 2009, and during his high school years he excelled in both academics and sports.

Nick played lacrosse and soccer, where he earned all league honors on the Chico High team.

While at Lewis & Clark he was a student employee and “ambassador” working for the Annual Fund phonathon, where he became an important member of this calling team. He also worked with Professor Peter Drake for three summers where he studied artificial intelligence computer models designed to play the classical Asian game of Go. Nick presented and published two paper on his research. He also spent a semester abroad studying in Budapest, Hungary.

Nick enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, bike riding, playing video games, and shopping forays at Thrift stores. He was a fun loving, adventurous, easygoing person, and you could always find a smile on his face followed by a warm hug.
