In memory of LC math major and avid chess player Isaac Clark, The LC Math Club is hosting the first ever Isaac Clark Memorial Chess Tournament for K-5 students.

In memory of Lewis & Clark math major and avid chess player Isaac Clark, the LC Math Club is partnering with Chess for Success to host the first ever Isaac Clark Memorial Chess Tournament for K-5 students from local elementary schools.

Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Smith Hall

In addition to a traditional chess tournament, we will be putting on fun chess-themed activities (silly hats, chess jokes and trivia!).

Isaac Clark, a math and physics major, died on October 17, 2011 of injuries sustained in a skateboarding accident. Clark’s friends and classmates, along with support from the Math and Computer Science Department, have decided to honor Isaac’s life by bringing his love of chess to children in Portland Public Schools.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to observe the tournament or join the festivities.

Volunteers are still need for the day of the tournament; if you are interested in having a lot of fun working with enthusiastic students please contact Kathleen Daly (kdaly@lclark.edu) and Alaina Green (agreen@lclark.edu).
