College Honors Stellar Alumni

On November 7, over 100 alumni attended the Alumni Honors Banquet to celebrate the achievements of three former classmates.

Donald G. Balmer Citation

Richard L. Woolworth ’63
Richard L. Woolworth is chair and chief executive officer of the Regence Group, the largest affiliation of Blue Cross/Blue Shield companies in the western United States. Woolworth is also a director of Columbia Mutual Funds and NW Natural. His philanthropic and volunteer work includes United Way of the Columbia-Willamette and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Woolworth has served as a trustee of Lewis & Clark College for 10 years.

Outstanding Young Alumna Award
Nerissa Koehn ’93
At Lewis & Clark College, Nerissa Koehn was a founding member of the Pamplin Society of Fellows and a Barbara Hirshi Neely scholar. At Harvard University, where she completed an MD, Koehn was awarded the 1998 Pisacano Scholarship for outstanding medical students. Koehn is currently in her last year of residency at Tacoma Family medicine. Next year, she and her husband, John Miller, plan to go to Zuni, New Mexico, to work at an Indian Health Service site.

Distinguished Alumnus Award
Randy Massengale ’78
Randy Massengale is the founder and chief executive officer of Spinoza Technology, a Seattle-based company that sells wireless handheld devices and communication software. Over the past three decades, Massengale has worked in organizations at the forefront of technology, including Tektronix, Intel, and Microsoft. Massengale, a trustee of the College, established the Randy Massengale Scholarship Fund in 2001 for minority students at Lewis & Clark College.
