Visiting Assistant Professor Michael Lazarus’ show “Recent Works” will be opening September 5th at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.

Michael Lazarus’ new body of work is constructed from found materials including paint, lettering, and commercial signage. He reconfigures these elements to create statements or questions that lure the viewer into the work. Known for his chromatically vibrant and conceptually complex paintings on panel, his work speaks to the multifaceted states that lie within life and death.  Lazarus received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts (New York, NY) and his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI).  His work has been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions at Deitch Projects (Long Island City, NY), San Francisco Art Institute (San Francisco, CA), Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Las Vegas Museum of Art (Las Vegas, NV), Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington (Seattle, WA), and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco, CA), among others.  His work is included in the collections of Neuberger Berman (New York, NY), JP Morgan Chase (New York, NY), Peter Norton Family Collection (New York, NY), and Portland Art Museum (Portland, OR).
