Spencer Byrne-Seres BA and Samantha Crane BA were selected to participate in the 18th Annual Recent Graduates Exhibition at Portland’s Blackfish Gallery in July 2013. The exhibit picks two top graduates from Oregon’s 15 universities and colleges to display their work outside an academic setting, often for the first time. Byrne-Seres built an apparatus with three cameras mounted to it: “I basically created a homemade Google street-view apparatus that would take photos of me as I walked down this street for two hours through Portland. And then from that I was able to make a stop-motion video.” Crane submitted a set of five black-and-white silver gelatin prints, accompanied by a book featuring more of her images. Her artist statement noted that “there is a conception that traditional photography is a form of truth or evidence, that it cannot be falsified, yet by being selective about what goes in front of the lens, the photographer controls what is documented, just as a person controls how an event is recorded into their memory.”

Nick Erickson BA and Corey O’Hara BA were two of six Lewis & Clark alumni who were part of the Liminal Performance Group’s production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town last fall in Portland. Erickson was the sound designer and O’Hara played George Gibbs.
