Sellwood Bridge reopens ahead of schedule

Sellwood Bridge to reopen for morning commute on Tuesday, February 18.

The Sellwood Bridge will reopen to traffic ahead of schedule. The bridge has been closed since midnight on Friday while a contractor drilled shafts under traffic lanes at the west end of the bridge.  The bridge will reopen to motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18.

The contractor had been given permission to keep the bridge closed until as late as 5 a.m. on February 20 to complete the work.  The drilling team worked around the clock from midnight on Friday and encountered no major obstacles during the operation.  A line of steel soldier piles were installed under the traffic lanes for a wall that will support a new Highway 43 interchange with the bridge.
