Gregory Karpstein JD was honored by the Washington County Bar Association with its 2013 Professionalism Award for his contributions to the legal community and Washington County. He is a founding member of Karpstein & Verhulst in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Janet Malloch BA worked in the paper industry for 35 years, focusing on recycling. “Now I manage projects in an analytical laboratory—thank you, Drs. [William] Randall and [Curtis] Keedy!” She and her husband Paul Morris have two children, “one at American University and another graduated and living in San Francisco.”
Pamela Nelson-Munson BA is in her fourth year serving as pastor at Ashland’s First United Methodist Church. She received a Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Grant and traveled to southern Ireland to attend a three-month cookery school in April 2013. Her husband, Brian, is teaching law part time at Southern Oregon University. Her grown children are Kaaren (family medicine in Oakland), Emma (attorney in Novato), and BrittaStina, a student. She has a grandson, Noak, “named for my Swedish grandfather who immigrated to Oakland in the early 1900s.”

Jan Friesen Pearce BA retired after 36 years of teaching in Lake Oswego Public Schools. She pursues her hobbies: music and reading, volunteering at both a Southeast Portland soup kitchen and a small village in Honduras, and traveling to interesting locales such as New Orleans and the Southwest. She is helping “plan the 40th (gulp!) reunion” and hopes to see you all there!
Martha Shilling BS retired from teaching first grade in Tigard, Oregon. She spends her time gardening, quilting, hiking, reading, volunteering, traveling, and hanging out with friends. Her Leonberger dog, Annie, is a constant companion.
Mike Stocks BS writes that he is still trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He spent many years writing software used to control equipment for the manufacture of semiconductors. Now he is becoming a Web designer. Do you need a Web presence? “See me at the reunion.”
1975
John Bennett JD a shareholder and member of the board of directors of Bullivant Houser Bailey, was named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Bennett has also been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2014.
C. Akin Blitz JD received the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police Karlyn Campbell Award in recognition of his decades of distinguished service as legal advisor to the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police and as an effective advocate for police agencies and their leadership teams.
1976
Jack Hoffman JD was appointed to the 2013 board of directors of the Arts Council of Lake Oswego.
Martin Waugh BS, a renowned photographer, led a program called Liquid Sculpture though the Yaquina Art Association Photographers. He used images to illustrate and demonstrate sophisticated setups, equipment, and props used to create his liquid sculptures.
1977
Lance Caldwell JD was named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Caldwell is a sole practitioner specializing in federal white-collar criminal defense, expert services, and consulting. His practice also includes civil and criminal case mediation services.
1978
Thomas Gerken JD was elected to serve a three-year term as District 17 representative on the board of governors of the Ohio State Bar Association. Gerken is a former president of the Hocking County Bar Association and served as a judge of the Hocking County Common Pleas Court for more than 23 years. He is also a former Vinton County Common Pleas judge.

Michele Longo Eder JD was appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber to serve on the board of trustees of Oregon State University.
Kathleen Gebhardt BA is a Boulder, Colorado, attorney and executive director of the nonprofit Children’s Voices. She serves on many education-related boards and committees to advocate for better laws that benefit students. She has five children, one of whom is a teacher.
K. William Gibson JD received the 2013 Samuel S. Smith Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American Bar Association Law Practice Management Section. The award recognizes those who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the field of law practice management.
Julie Jones Manning BA will complete a four-year term as mayor of Corvallis in December 2014. She is vice president for marketing, public relations, and development at Samaritan Health Services.
Mark Tratos JD, founding shareholder of the Las Vegas office of Greenberg Traurig, was named chair of the National Judicial College board of trustees. Tratos is vice chair of the Lewis & Clark Board of Trustees and chair of the Lewis & Clark Law School Board of Visitors.
