2013

Tb.is past summer, I was able to pursue a legal internship with the Southern Environmental Law Center’s headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia. This opportunity to work with and learn from some of the country’s top public interest environmental attorneys would not have been possible without the support of a PILP stipend.

The stipend afforded me an incredible learning experience working on cutting edge environmental law and policy issues. While at SELC, I was able to help draft renewable energy legislation, develop formal arguments in state administrative energy proceedings, and work on numerous other projects while being introduced to the beauty and environmental heritage of the Shenandoah Valley. At the same time, the stipend made it possible for this nonprofit to benefit fro~ more than 400 hours of legal work that I was able to devote to these important causes. I can personally attest to the enduring value of a donation to PILP-it helps move students such as myself toward a lifelong career in public interest legal work while allowing public interest organizations on tight budgets to directly and immediately benefit from legal projects completed by Lewis & Clark students.
