NSF grant to support development of cybersecurity education resources

The National Science Foundation has awarded Lewis & Clark $166,526 in support of Professor of Computer Science Jens Mache’s project, “EDURange: Supporting cyber security education with hands-on exercises, a student-staffed help-desk, and webinars.” This three-year project, a collaboration with Evergreen State College, will involve several Lewis & Clark undergraduates and develop resources for–and support– faculty members teaching cyber security all over the country. The goal of the project is to help meet the demand for new cyber security professionals by exposing students to hands on security exercises. Although the principles of secure software and systems design have implications for testing, debugging, and reliability, these concepts are currently only taught on a limited basis–this project will address this need and help bolster American technical competitiveness. More information about Dr. Mache’s research is available here.
